Public Profile

Distinguished and Famous people from Knox

🌟 Sir George Hodges Knox

Sir George Hodges Knox gave the municipality its name, but his association was more substantial than a naming tribute. He lived at Kent Park in Scoresby and later built Greenlaw on part of the property. The grounds were associated with the Kent Park Polo Club. Knox served on Ferntree Gully Shire Council from 1923 to 1928, entered the Victorian parliament in 1927 and remained a member until his death in 1960. He was Speaker of the Legislative Assembly from 1942 to 1947. His career links a particular Scoresby property with local government and state politics.

🏛️ Marie Wallace

Marie Wallace was a long-serving Knox councillor who represented Dinsdale Ward for more than twenty years and served as mayor three times. Council’s own record acknowledges her involvement in projects benefiting the community. Bayswater’s Marie Wallace Park provides a continuing public reminder of that service, with recreation grounds and play spaces beside Dandenong Creek. Her place in a local Who’s Who rests on sustained municipal work. That may attract fewer national headlines than a sporting career, but council service helps shape the everyday parks and facilities that residents actually use.
